Sister Andrea came to India when she was 29 and
devotes her life to helping the poor. First she helped the lepers for 12 years and then spent another 12 years working as volunteer in the social departement of French consulate of Pondicherry, while working at the French lycée.
The years she worked at the consulate made her
realise the degree of misery which existed as well as the lack of sufficient schooling for children.
In 1981, at age 50, with the agreement of the Bishop
of Pondicherry, she decided to open an institution to take in orphans and abandoned children who lived in the streets.
It was the P.A.V.O. Fondation.
The first 18 children were welcomed in a rented
house. |
